とにかく日本の公演をする時の僕の一番の条件は、ケリー・オハラを日本のお客様に見せてあげたいっていうのが一番なので。
まずそれが実現した事が嬉しいです。
それと、ニューヨーク、ロンドンでいろんな形を変えながらというか、深めながら作ってきたこの素晴らしいカンパニー（一座）を、本当に日本のお客様にちょっと短い間の一ヶ月なんですけれど、その間届けられるということは、このカンパニーをケリーと二人で引っ張ってきた誇りのようなものを感じますね。

いつか日本公演を実現して日本に来たい、また、渡辺さんと一緒に出来ることをとても名誉な事と思っています。
『王様と私』私のアメリカ本国で生まれたショーですが、彼の母国で是非やりたいと思っていました。
それはある意味交換をすると言う意味だったのですが、渡辺さんと仕事をすると言う事は本当に愛していますし、作品を尊重しています。
私の人生の中でもベストなコラボだと思っています。
私と彼の本国でこの公演を出来る事を嬉しく思っていますし、皆様の期待にそえるようにとても楽しみにしています。

二人のコンビネーションは？
渡辺 謙
ほとんどノールック（見ない）とか、ノーサインでやっている感じなんですよ。
もちろん、何百回もやっているのでアレなんですけれど、本当に、言ってみればバッテリーで、何を投げても取ってくれるし、また、良い球を返してくれるので、そういう意味では本当にもちろん素晴らしいシンガーなんですけど、ものすごい、僕がもう一番尊敬する女優さんの一人です。

渡辺さんは、真の役者さんだと思います。
彼が演じるときは、彼からのパッションを本当に感じます。
だからこそ私は常に自分の演技力をステップアップしなければならないです。
今までの王様のパッション、強味を他に感じた事はありません。
渡辺さんの演じるキングは、特別な王様であって今までにない王様です。
これは決してコメディでもジョークでもありません。
重要なパワーを感じる役だと思います。
権力を持ちつつも自分の国をのっとられないようにしなければならない王様の役を渡辺さんが素晴らしい演技で演じていらっしゃいます。
だからこそ私は、アンナとして、その人間性、人間味をそれにあわせてステップアップしなければならないと思っています。
私も同じようにしなければならないと思っています。

日本公演の違いは？
渡辺 謙
英語でやりますので、英語から母国の国でやるのと、今回字幕が付きますのでちょっとしたタイムラグがあるんですよ。
その中で、スイッチしていく、慣らしていく時間をみたいなことがもしかしたらお芝居が始まってから少しの間あるかもしれません。
でも、日本の方は字幕は慣れていらっしゃるので、結構字幕もいい感じで出るシステムを劇場が開発してくださったので、あまり違和感なくおそらくバート（演出家バーレット・シャー）が作った新しい２１世紀の愛というものを、初めて深くご理解していただける他無いなと思います。

観客の違いはありますか？
渡辺 謙
日本はやってみないと分からないんですけど、ロンドンの人がこんなにジョークが好きなのかっていうのがちょっと驚きましたね。
２０００、やっぱ、ココと同じくらいのキャパだったんですけど、これは吉本新喜劇じゃないかっていうくらいドッカンドッカン受けるんですよ。
それはすごかったですね。

どちらかというと大人しいと思うんですけども。
でも、三谷君のコメディを大阪でやった時も同じようにドッカンドッカンきましたね。
頑張って負けないようにしたいですね。

いやあ、どうでしょう。

この『王様と私』というのは、リズムがすごく重要な事でもあります。
ところどころ笑いがある所では笑っていただく事が重要なのですが、遠慮なく気兼ねなく皆さんに笑っていただきたいですし、自由に楽しんでいただきたいと思います。
この物語は流れがあって、笑いだけではなく物語の中に深い意味が所々あります。お互いに一緒にやりながら、最初にそのリズムに慣れるのに少し時間がかかるかもしれませんが、二週目にはそのリズムを勝ち得られると思いますし、皆さんに楽しんでいただけると思います。

今回、日本を楽しむ時間があると本当にいいと思います。
今回、主人と子供も連れてきているのですが、オフの日にはできれば観光したいなと思います。
もちろん、渡辺謙さんとも時間を過ごしたいと思っていますが、実は１年半前にコンサートで来日した事がありまして、その時に日本は本当に素晴らしい国だなと感銘しました。
それをできれば私の家族と共有したいと思っていまして、彼らにとっても忘れられない経験にしたいと思いました。

これも本当に何年間もやっている舞台なので。
ただ、新しく劇場でやるっていうことは、やっぱりお客さんはお客さんであることと、期待感が大きいですね。
まあ、すごく、皆さん待っていてくださいねっていう感じなので。
やる事に関してはそんなに変わりはないんですけど、あ、やっぱり、でも、ちょっと、ちょっと、変わってますね。
ニューヨークとも、ロンドンとも、また、劇場の使い方が変わっているので、その辺はニューヨーク、ロンドン、見に来てくださった方の、おっ、ここはこうだって比較していただける要素もあるので。
まあ、それは、結構楽しみながらですね。
いろいろ変わったりするのは楽しい。

いや！
ずっと日本の俳優が日本でやるのに英語でやるのって、すごい！
僕が戸惑いがあったというか、腰が引けてたんですけど。
やっぱり一番最初にお話ししたように、ケリー・オハラともう一人、ルーシー・アマイズ（女優？）って、素晴らしいトニー賞を取った主演女優がいるんですけど、その二人を見て欲しいっていうのが、その僕の気持ちには圧倒的に勝ちまして。
それをお見せしたいからですね。

残念ながら僕、全然お会いしたこともないしお仕事もしたことがないのでアレなんですけど、やっぱり、日本のエンターテイメントの中で海外の空気みたいなものをものすごいいち早く日本に輸入された方だって僕は認識しているんですね。
だから、ミュージカルにしてもそうですし、舞台にしてもそうですし、エンターテイメントの作り方にしてもそうですし、すごく革新的な時代を先取りするようなチョップ（トップ）プロデュース能力はすごいあった方なんだろうなっていう風に認識しています。
本当は、だから、僕なんかもこうやってサポートを行き来し始めたので、一緒に何かお仕事をしてみたかったしとかお話をしてみたかったなっていうのはあります。
それはすごく残念なんですが、やっぱり同じエンターテイメントにいる人間としてその意思を継ぎながらこういう形ででもあるし、また僕が外に出て行く形でもあるし、いろんな形で日本のエンターテイメントの底を上げていきたいなと思っています。
