and Consultant!

  • Did you know that Japanese cast and crew are used to following the rigid style of Japanese Directors?

  • Are you familiar with how they approach an ensemble environment from the viewpoint of a strict societal hierarchy, which comes embedded into their culture?

  • Do you need the most effective technique to getting the best performance out of your actors?

Ask me what to expect, or to reflect on an experience you had, when working with a  Japanese cast and crew!

Hi! I'm Larisa, an American theatre maker who has been producing, promoting, and teaching theatre in Japan for a decade and a half. Something that I've noticed, that nobody else is addressing, is the biggest reason why Broadway shows fail in Japan.

The Japanese live by an intricate set of rules, which we don't tend to have on Broadway/in the west. Because of your status as Producer, Manager, or Director, nobody on your Japanese team is going to tell you what you don't know, nor how to adapt your communication style to get what you want out of the actors. But I will!

The differences in the Eastern and Western environments need to be dissected carefully, and with a unique sensitivity. The root cause for Broadway shows losing quality as they make their debut in Japan is simply because the directors and actors aren't understanding each other.

With the experience I have accumulated in bridging this culture barrier, and my passion for supporting broadway style theatre in Japan, I am available to help nurture your experience and ensure you produce a successful rehearsal environment.
